Boston, Mass. - April 10, 2017 - For the second time in as many weeks, Talia Loda (East Haven, Conn.) and Kirsten Drobiak (Griswold, Conn.) of the Springfield College softball team were recognized by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC), as the tandem earned NEWMAC Softball Weekly Honors, announced on Monday.
Loda, a junior Applied Exercise Science major at Springfield College, was named the NEWMAC Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week, while Drobiak, a junior Physician Assistant major, garnered NEWMAC Softball Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. The duo was also recognized by the ECAC, as Drobiak was named the Division III New England Player of the Week and Loda the Division III New England Pitcher of the Week.
Loda had and impressive week for the Pride, as she led the maroon and white to a record of 4-2 against NEWMAC opponents. Loda went 3-1, pitching 26.0 innings, giving up just three earned runs while owning an ERA of 0.81. Loda also fanned 20 batters, including nine in a 9-1 win over No. 19 MIT. At the plate, Loda went 10-for-23 (.435) in the lead off spot, driving in three runs and scoring four herself.
Drobiak also had a standout week for the Pride, as the Griswold, Conn. native went 7-for-14 (.500 avg.) on the week, with four doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. Drobiak also scored five runs, while holding an on-base percentage of .619 and slugging 1.214. In the field, Drobiak had an errorless week, finishing with a fielding percentage of 1.000.
