Northampton, Mass. - October 29, 2016 - The Springfield College men's cross country team raced to a fifth-place finish at the 2016 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship on Saturday afternoon at Smith College.
For the second-straight year Johnny O'Hanlon (Haworth, N.J.) earned NEWMAC All-Conference honors as he ran the 8k course in a time of 26.17. The junior recorded the 10th-fastest time out of the 102 runners in the race.
MIT won the title with five of the top seven runners in the race en route to 19 points. WPI took second (55), followed by Babson (96), Coast Guard (112), Springfield (116), Emerson (201), Clark (205), and Wheaton (235).
Junior Jack Pinho (Prospect, Conn.) was the Pride's next fastest runner of the afternoon, as he crossed the finish line in 26:58 for 18th-place overall.
Next, senior Ben Malin (North Easton, Mass.) crossed in 27:34 to take 27th. Tyler Cronin (Melrose, Mass.) registered a time of 28:00 for 30th and Owen Ross (Closter, N.J.) notched a time of 28:19 to finish in 31st.
Springfield will next race in the NCAA Division III Regional Championships which will take place on November 12.
