Northampton, Mass. - September 10, 2016 - The Springfield College men's cross country team raced in the Smith College Invitational on Saturday afternoon and finished third out of a eight-team field.
Today's competition marked the first under the direction of Springfield College's Director of Cross Country and Track & Field, Angelo Posillico, and Head Cross Country Coach, Anna Steinman.
The Coast Guard Academy won the meet (40), while Babson (44) and Springfield (71) rounded out the top three. The remainder of the finishers included Franklin Pierce (83), Clark (159), Western New England (167), St. Anselm (198), and Hampshire (231).
Jack Pinho (Prospect, Conn.) was Springfield's top finisher on the day as he crossed the finish line with the third-fastest time of the race, posting a 28:03.02. Teammate Tyler Cronin (Melrose, Mass.) took 10th after finishing the 8k course in 28:55.40, closely followed by teammate Owen Ross (Closter, N.J.), who was 11th in 28:57.35.
In his first collegiate race, Chris Tringali (Millville, Mass.) placed 22nd in 29:29.67, and Zack Guptill (New Milford, Conn.) rounded out the Pride's top five as he ran a 29:56.92 to cross the finish line 30th.
The Pride will race again Saturday, Sept. 17th at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
