Danbury, Conn. - February 6, 2018 - For the second-consecutive week, Springfield College's Sergio Figueroa Velez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) was chosen as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's Division III North Men's Volleyball Player of the Week.
The senior outside hitter was dominant over the weekend as the helped lead the Pride to its third-straight International Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic title. In two matches, the Movement and Sports Studies major produced 24 kills at a remarkable .571 hitting percentage to go along with 19 digs, eight blocks, and five aces en route to earning MVP honors. Figueroa Velez opened weekend with 12 kills, nine digs, and three blocks in a sweep of Stevenson before registering 12 kills at a .733 clip to go along with 10 digs, five blocks, and four aces in three sets versus New Paltz a rematch of last year's NCAA Division III Championship.
Springfield will continue its seven-match homestand as it hosts nationally-ranked Wentworth and St. Joseph's on Saturday for a tri-match beginning at 4:00 pm in Blake Arena.
