Rodriguez Lopez Helps Puerto Rico Win Silver Medal At NORCECA XII Men's Pan-American Cup

Gatineau, Canada - July 31, 2017 - Springfield College's Jonathan Rodriguez Lopez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) was a member of the Puerto Rican Men's Volleyball National Team that won the silver medal at the NORCECA XII Pan American Cup, played in Quebec, Canada from July 23-31.

The second-place finish proved to equal the best performance that Puerto Rico has ever had in the competition, matching the silver-medal showing in 2007.

With their finish, Puerto Rico will now prepare to compete in the NORCECA Championship which will be played in Colorado Springs, Colorado in September.

After dropping a three-set match to Argentina in its opening match of the week, Puerto Rico swept host Canada and held on for a five-set win over Venezuela to advance to the semifinals.  From there, Puerto Rico bested the United States in four sets to move on to the championship, where it was the only team to take a set from Argentina in the entire tournament before eventually bowing out in four sets.

Rodriguez Lopez was one of four middle blockers on the 14-man team and was one of only two players who are still competing on the intercollegiate level in the United States.  The Business Management major helped lead Springfield to its 10th Division III national championship in April, as he appeared 25 matches, totaling 100 kills at a .527 hitting percentage to go along with a team-best 68 blocks, averaging .92 per set.
