Williamstown, Mass. - May 6, 2017 - Led by an impressive performance from junior Whit DeVaux (Wethersfield, Conn.), the Springfield College men's track and field team competed at the Division III New England Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday.
The Pride finished 18th in New England, as it produced 13.33 points on the weekend. DeVaux won the javelin with a career-best toss of 214 feet, 6 inches to win the event. DeVaux's new mark places him No. 4 in all of Division III men's track and field.
Also impressive on the day was senior Alex Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.), who finished sixth in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 5 inches, and Jack Pinho (Prospect, Conn.), who finished 10th in the 800 meter with an impressive time of 1:55.30.
Fresh off winning NEWMAC Rookie of the Year honors last weekend, freshman Tyler Hansen (Shelton, Conn.) continued his impressive first season with the Pride, as he posted a pair of 11th-place finishes, crossing in 10.95 seconds in the 100, and 22.20 in the 200.
Up next, Springfield College will return to Williams College on Friday, May 12 when it competes in the All New England Championships.
