Northampton Mass. – April 8, 2017 - Led by seven first place finishes and two top three sweeps on Saturday, the Springfield College men's track and field team competed at the Smith Pioneer Invitational in its first outdoor meet of 2017.
With a time of 15:59.43, Johnny O'Hanlon (Haworth, N.J.) earned a first place finish in the 5,000 meter run. Erik King (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.61 seconds, while Jack Pinho (Prospect, Conn.) took first in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:14.41.
Tyler Cronin (Melrose, Mass.) turned in 25 impressive laps and finished first in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 35:09.95. Daniel Lane (Southwick, Mass.) earned first place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.38 seconds, while Nick Blood (Denville, N.J.) notched a third-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 37.61 feet.
In the javelin throw, Whit DeVaux (Wethersfield, Conn.) (55.37 meters), Rich Williams (Wethersfield, Conn.) (54.28 meters), and Tony Valentino (North Haven, Conn.) (47.43 meters), swept the podium, with a first, second, and third place finish respectively.
Springfield salvaged its second sweep on the afternoon in the high jump. Alex Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.) (6 feet, 4 inches) placed first, Connor Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) (6 feet) placed second, and Max Pacetti (Falmouth, Maine) (5 feet, 10 inches) took third.
Tyler Hansen (Shelton, Conn.), Eric McCracken (Gales Ferry, Conn.), and DeShaun Dias (Mashpee, Mass.) finished second, third, and fourth in the men's 100 meter dash. Hansen followed up his 100 meter performance by placing third in the 200 meter dash.
The Pride's next meet is on Friday, April 14 at the Coast Guard Academy.
