Boston, Mass. - February 25, 2017 - The Springfield College men's track and field team placed 16th overall at the New England NEICAAA Championships, hosted by Boston University on Friday and Saturday.
Highlighting the Pride on friday night was the impressive performances of Deckel and Niemiec, as Deckel took fourth overall in the pole vault, clearing 15 feet, 5 inches, and Niemiec took second overall in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 9.5 inches.
Also competing for the Pride on Friday was Jake Buhelt (Falmouth, Maine), who took 16th overall in the 400 meter prelims with a time of 50.51 seconds, and the Distance Medley Relay team of Owen Ross (Closter, N.J.), Johnny Poitras (Somers, Conn.), Zack Guptill (New Milford, Conn.) and Johnny O'Hanlon (Haworth, N.J.), who took 13th with a time of 11:00.85.
On Saturday, Tyler Hansen (Shelton, Conn.) and DeShaun Dias (Mashpee, Mass.) both competed in the 60 meter dash prelims, but did not qualify for the finals, while the 4x400 relay team of Frank Footman (Middletown, Conn.), Ben Malin (North Easton, Mass.), Erik King (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Buhelt took 18th with a time of 3:25.89.
Springfield College will compete at the ECAC Championships on Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4 in its final meet before the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 10-11.
