Deckel Takes Second in Pole Vault; Men's Track and Field Competes at Division III New England Championships

Medford, Mass. – February 18, 2017 - Led by a second-place finish in the pole vault from sophomore Brad Deckel (Lansdale, Pa.), the Springfield College men's track and field program competed at the Division III New England Championships, hosted at Tufts University on Saturday afternoon.

Springfield College took 20th overall, as it combined for eight points on the afternoon. Tufts won the meet with 127 points, while Williams took second with 92 points, MIT third with 84 points, Middlebury fourth with 79 and Bowdoin rounded out the top five with 56.

Deckel cleared 15 feet, 5 inches to tie his own Springfield College school record and finish runner up, resulting in the Pride's eight points on the day.

Senior Jake Buhelt (Falmouth, Maine) completed the 400 meter run in 52.26 seconds, and in the men's 200 meter dash, Tyler Hansen (Shelton, Conn.) finished in a time of 23.14 seconds. Hansen also took 16th overall in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.20 seconds. 

The Pride will compete in the All New England Championships next weekend at Boston University.
