Utica, N.Y. - January 14, 2017 - The Springfield College men's track and field team opened 2017 at the Utica College Pioneer Invitational, hosted by Utica College on Saturday.
The Pride received impressive performances in the track events from senior Jacob Buhelt (Falmouth, Maine), who took third in the 400 meter with a time of 52.11 and ninth overall in the 200 meter with a time of 23.64, while in the field events, junior Timothy Harvey (Middletown, Conn.), took fourth in the long jump with a distance of 20 feet, 10.5 inches, and seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 41 feet, 8.75 inches.
Also in the 400 meter, freshman Frank Footman (Middletown, Conn.) posted a sixth-place finish with a time of 53.01, while in the 60 meter hurdles, Emmanuel Kalamu (Framingham, Mass.) took fourth with a time of 9.03 seconds. Following Buhelt in the 200, DeShaun Dias (Mashpee, Mass.) crossed 10th overall with a time of 23.66 seconds.
In the high jump Maxwell Pacetti (Falmouth, Maine) and Kyle Kublbeck (Gardner, Mass.) took fourth and fifth, respectively, as they both cleared 5 feet, 10 inches. In the pole vault, sophomore Brad Deckel (Lansdale, Pa.) fell just short of the program record, as he cleared 14 feet, 3.25 inches, taking third overall.
Springfield College will next compete back in the Springfield College Field House on Saturday, January 21 when it hosts Bridgewater State, Worcester State, Wheaton, RIC, Keene State, Westfield State, Trinity, Coast Guard, UMass Dartmouth and Stevens Tech as part of the Maroon and White Classic.
