Springfield, Mass. - December 3, 2016 - Five individual victories paced the Springfield College men's track and field program in the Pride's first competition of the 2016-17 season, a six-team season-opening meet held in the Springfield College Field House.
Standout senior Alex Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.) was impressive on the afternoon, as he took first place in the only two events he competed in, the 60 meter dash, and the high jump. Niemiec posted a winning time of 6.94 seconds in the 60, before clearing 6 feet, 10.25 inches in the high jump to take first overall.
Freshman Tyler Hansen (Shelton, Conn.) had an impressive first collegiate meet, as he took first overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.44 seconds, and was the runner up behind Niemiec in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.09 seconds.
Also impressive on the day was junior Timothy Harvey (Middletown, Conn.), who took first overall in the triple jump with a distance of 41 feet, 8.5 inches, and sophomore Brad Deckel (Lansdale, Pa.), who won the pole vault competition, clearing 13 feet, 11.25 inches. Also in the pole vault, Parker Cronin (Ledyard, Conn.) took third, clearing 11 feet, 5.75 inches, while Michael Munroe (Quincy, Mass.) took second overall in the shot put with a heave 45 feet, 5 inches.
Lastly, Connor Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) took fourth overall in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.91 seconds, while in the 500 meter dash, and Jake Buhelt (Falmouth, Maine) took third with a time of 1:09.22.
Up next, Springfield College will travel to Middlebury, Vt. for the Middlebury College Invitational on January 14.
