Dudley, Mass. - September 10, 2017 - The Springfield College men's tennis team kicked off the 2017 campaign at the Nichols College Invitational on Sunday afternoon and was led by the winning efforts of Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.) on Robinson Tennis Courts.
Competing in the "A" flight, Romaine rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over Clark's Barun Gill to start his day and then handled Blake Norton from Nichols by a score of 6-4, 6-1 in the championship final.
Teammate Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) also had a strong showing in his junior debut, producing a 7-5, 6-4 win against Guilherme Barbosa from Nichols in the semifinals, before bowing out by a 6-4, 6-2 decision in the "B" flight finals. Additionally, Zack Keene (Agawam, Mass.) was victorious in the consolation finals of flight "C", best Nicolas Lee of Clark, 6-4, 6-0.
The Pride will compete this upcoming Saturday at the Connecticut College Tournament.
