Men's Swimming and Diving Splits at Ed & Judy Golden Invitational

Kingston, R.I. - October 29, 2016 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team opened up the 2016-17 campaign competing in the Ed & Judy Golden Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Pride defeated host University of Rhode Island, 214-50, and was edged by New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)-foe Coast Guard, 165-114.

Austin Von Heeringen (Germantown, Md.) won the 200 backstroke with a 1:59.85 and registered the second-fastest time in the 100 back with a 55.11.  Kent Parsons (Hamilton, Mass.) was the runner up in the 200 freestyle as he touched in 1:49.20 and took third in the 100 free with a 49.46

Springfield's 200 free relay of Parsons, Sean Harnish (Middlebury, Conn.)Kyle Hummel (Bath, Maine), and Erik McKenna (Stamford, Conn.) posted the third-fastest time of the afternoon with a 1:32.86. 

Springfield will compete again next Sunday when it travels to face MIT.
