Murphy Tabbed NEWMAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

Boston, Mass. - October 31, 2016 - Springfield College's Danny Murphy (Old Saybrook, Conn.) of the men's soccer program has been selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference offices on Monday morning.

Murphy, a junior midfielder and Finance major at Springfield College,  helped the Pride to another 2-0 week, as Murphy posted three points, including a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win over Coast Guard this past Saturday. Trailing the Bears, 1-0, at halftime, Murphy struck just 5:03 into the second half to even the score at one, before setting up a game-winning goal from Brad Deckel (Lansdale, Pa.) with his 11th assist of the season. With 11 assists in 2016, Murphy has now tied the Springfield College men's soccer program record for assists in a single season that was set by Ed Greene in 1989.

Murphy and the rest of the Pride will look to vie for a NEWMAC Championship on Saturday, November 5 when it will take on Clark in the NEWMAC Semifinals, hosted at Babson College, at 1:30 p.m.
