Danbury, Conn. - September 4, 2016 - Senior forward Luke Alvaro (Chicopee, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Keon Haji (Shrewsbury, Mass.) each recorded four points on the day, as the Springfield College men's soccer program picked up its second win of the year, a 4-0 win over Western Connecticut on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Pride improves to 2-0 overall, as this marks the first time in Division III program history that a Springfield College men's soccer team has started the season with back-to-back shutouts. With the loss however, Western Connecticut falls to 0-2 on the year.
Once again, Springfield College dominated the possession game, and posted 21 shots to the Colonials 10, while both sides had nine corner kicks in the match. In net, senior goalkeeper Zach Richard (Millbury, Mass.) and freshman Camden Spear (Boothbay, Maine) split halves, as they both made a pair of saves. For Western Connecticut, Luca Dicarlo (Waterbury, Conn.) made seven saves, but took the loss.
It only took Springfield 18:09 to get on the board, when Christian Schneider (Douglas, Mass.) set up Alvaro for his third of the year to make it 1-0, Pride, before the visitors tacked on another just 3:03 later when Alvaro set up Haji for his first of the season to make it 2-0 midway through the first half.
Coming out of the break, sophomore midfielder Xavi Arroyo (Concord, Mass.) assisted Cam Powell (Housatonic, Mass.) for his first of the season, before Haji found the back of the net for the second time on a great pass from Alvaro to make it 4-0 with 2:35 to play.
Springfield will open its 2016 home slate on Wednesday, September 7 when it will host Elms College at 7 p.m on Brock-Affleck Field.
