Springfield, Mass. - April 11, 2018 - Five student athletes from the men's gymnastics program will represent Springfield College on the national stage on April 20-21, as they each qualified for the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championship to be held at the UIC Pavilion on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago.
The five members include sophomore Stephen Lewis (Baltimore, Md.), seniors Chris Graff (Old Bridge, N.J.), Joshua Dieker (Oviedo, Fla.), and Mike Grimaldi (Middletown, N.J.), and junior Jannik Haas (San Jose, Calif.). Lewis, Graff, and Dieker will be competing in the all-around, while Grimaldi and Haas will be on the parallel bars, and Haas will compete on the horizontal bar.
In his second season with the Pride, Lewis accumulated an individual all-around qualifying score with a score of 78.400, while Graff and Dieker followed closely with scores of 77.675 and 76.413, respectively. Qualifying for the third consecutive season, Haas posted a parallel bars qualifying score of 13.575, whiel Grimaldi will return to the national stage in his speciality after owning a qualifying score of 13.175. Additionally, Haas will compete on the horizontal bar after earning a qualifying mark of 13.138.
In his first season at Springfield College, head coach Matt Davis will bring five student-athletes to the NCAA Championships, marking the second-straight season that the Pride has five student-athletes competing against the best in the country.
The Pride will kick off the NCAA Championships on Friday, April 20 at 7 p.m., looking for a chance to advance to Saturday's finals session, held at 6 p.m.
