Springfield, Mass. - March 18, 2018 - Competing in Blake Arena for the final time this season, the Springfield College men's gymnastics team was clipped by Army, 393.300-387.000 on Sunday afternoon.
Springfield's Stephen Lewis (Baltimore, Md.) had a great showing on the day and won the all-around competition with a score of 80.100. Teammate Joshua Dieker (Oviedo, Fla.) took third in the all-around after producing a 76.000.
The Pride began the meet on the floor exercise, and Lewis hit for a team-best 13.900, while Dieker added a 13.350 and Matthew Koy (Parlin, N.J.) turned in a 13.150. Moving on to the pommel horse, Springfield's lowest-scoring rotation of the day, Lewis tallied a 12.950 to pace the hosts. Chris Graff (Old Bridge, N.J.) registered a 12.200, closely followed by Phil Ordonez's (Jacksonville, Fla.) score of 12.050.
On the rings, Dieker paced the way with a 13.600, while Lewis (13.100) and Graff (12.950) added strong scores for the hosts. Moving to the vault, Springfield had its best showing with a team-best of 68.600. First-year John Rowbotham (Tynsboro, Mass.) delivered a career-high mark of 14.200, Lewis hit for a 14.100, and Alex Campagnone (Johnston, R.I.) earned a 13.900.
Jannik Haas (San Jose, Calif.) was credited with a 13.500 on the parallel bars, while Mike Grimaldi (Middletown, N.J.) hit for a 13.000 and Graff recorded a 12.900. Finishing the afternoon on the high bar, Haas scored a season-best 13.800, and Lewis (13.300) and Ordonez (12.700) wrapped up the Pride's top scores.
Next on Springfield's schedule is the USAG Championships, which will take place in Colorado at Air Force on March 30-31.
