Graff and Lewis Shine As Men's Gymnastics Bests Illinois-Chicago and Temple

Springfield, Mass. - February 18, 2018 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics team picked up its home victories of the season on Sunday as it totaled a team score of 390.700 to topple Illinois-Chicago (368.55) and Temple (138.80).

Competing for the first time since February 4, the Pride were led by career-best showings in the all-around competition by Stephen Lewis (Baltimore, Md.) and Chris Graff (Old Bridge, N.J.), who each topped the 80-point plateau for the first time in their careers.  Lewis led the way with a winning mark of 80.800, with Graff taking second with a 80.750.

Springfield opened up the competition on the floor exercise and Lewis nailed a career-high mark of 14.200 to pace the Pride's efforts.  Graff added a season-best score of 13.900, while Matthew Koy (Parlin, N.J.) delivered a 13.500 for the hosts.  

On the pommel horse, Graff registered a season-best mark of 14.000, followed by Lewis who turned in a 13.300, while Nick Cramer (Lincoln, Neb.) added an 11.500.  The Pride then moved to the still rings, where Lewis delivered another career-best performance when he was credited with a 13.650.  Graff totaled a score of 13.450, and John Rowbotham (Tynsboro, Mass.) hit for a 12.700.

Lewis had the Pride's best showing on the vault after earning a 14.300, with Graff closely behind him with a 14.000.  Alex Campagnone (Johnston, R.I.) also contributed a 13.750 on the event for Springfield.   On the parallel bars, Jannik Haas (San Jose, Calif.) had a 13.500, Graff notched a 13.150, and Mike Grimaldi (Middletown, N.J.) earned a 12.950, while in Springfield's final event of the afternoon, both Phil Ordonez (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Haas recorded 13.050's on the horizontal bar, while Lewis scored a 12.700.

Next Saturday, Springfield will hit the road to West Point, N.Y. to face Army and William & Mary.
