Danbury, Conn. - January 24, 2017 - Springfield College's Stephen Lewis (Baltimore, Md.) of the men's gymnastics program was recognized for his impressive performance this past weekend at the Navy Open, as the freshman was named the Eastern Collegiate Gymnastics Association (ECAC) Men's Gymnastics Rookie of the Week, announced by the conference offices on Tuesday.
In front of his hometown crowd, Lewis continued to impress in the early stages of his collegiate career, tying for second in the all-around with a 78.800. The freshman's day was highlighted by a winning score of 14.150 on the vault, while he also finished third on the floor exercise after scoring a 13.500. Competing against Navy, William and Mary and Temple, Lewis also notched matching scores of 13.250 on the parallel bars and rings, while also posting a 12.150 on the high bar and 12.500 on the pommel horse.
Lewis, along with the rest of the Springfield College men's gymnastics team will resume competition on Sunday, January 29, when the Pride will host Penn State in Blake Arena at 1 p.m.
