West Point, N.Y. - March 28, 2015 - Pat Ryther (Boston, Mass.) became just the fifth Springfield College men's gymnast in program history to win an ECAC Championship on the pommel horse on Saturday after registered a 15.000 at the Gross Sports Center.
Ryther became the first Springfield College gymnast to win an ECAC title on the pommel horse since Ricardo Portalatin last did in 1994. Additionally, this marks the third time in the past four years that a Springfield College gymnast won an individual ECAC title as Ryan Ponce '14 won on the rings in both 2012 and 2013.
The top six finishers in each event earned All-ECAC honors.
In addition to Ryther's success on the pommel horse, teammate Jon Zirna (East Amherst, N.Y.) placed third in the event with a 14.250. Zirna also had a tremendous showing on the vault, as he recorded a 14.500 to also finished third, while Ian Stratton (Elizabeth City, N.C.) finished tied for fourth on the floor after scoring a 13.950
On the rings, Joshua Dieker (Oveida, Fla.) finished seventh with a 13.850, Sam Docherty (Upton, Mass.) was eighth on the parallel bars with a 13.600. On the high bar, Tucker McClure (San Jose, Calif.) took 10th with a 13.450,
