Cranston, R.I. - April 14, 2019 - Behind an incredible performance from Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.), the Springfield College golf team finished fifth at the Johnson & Wales Wildcat Spring Invitational on Sunday at Cranston Country Club.
Amherst won the tournament with a team score of 596, followed by Providence College (600), Johnson & Wales (605), Husson (613), and Springfield (619). A total of 16 teams competed in the two-day event.
Strong put together a remarkable showing this weekend as he finished tied for third individually among the 103 golfers in the event, posting a two-day, five-over score of 147. The junior missed out on medalist honors by just four strokes. After registering a 74 on Sunday, Strong followed up with a 73 on Sunday to conclude a memorable weekend on the links.
Jake Raichle (Bethlehem, N.H.) also finished inside the top 20 as he tied for 18th with a two-day score of 153, including a 75 on Sunday. Matt Gazaille (Palmer, Mass.) carded a 79 for a 160, while Doug Shane (Hamden, Conn.) was right behind him with a 161. Corey Roya (Manchester, Conn.) wrapped up the Pride's competitors with a 167, highlighted by a 79 on Saturday.
Springfield will play for the final time this season at the Westport Hampton Inn Invitational next weekend.
