Newington, Conn. - September 8, 2018 - The Springfield College golf team competed for the first time this season at the Bill Detrick Invitational on Saturday held at Indian Hill Country Club.
As a team, Springfield combined for 318 strokes in their opening day of competition and sits in eighth among the 10 teams in the field. Host Trinity College is in first after the first round with a 289, followed by Babson (300), Tufts (301), and Amherst (304). Trinity (306), Manhattanville (312), and WNE (316) are all slightly ahead of the Pride, while Elms (319) and Wesleyan (325) round out the competitors.
Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.) returned to his hometown to lead Springfield on the day as he carded a 78. The Pride's next three-best scores were all 80's thaks to the efforts of Jake Raichle (Bethlehem, N.H.), Matt Gazaille (Palmer, Mass.) and Corey Roya (Manchester, Conn.).
