Amherst, Mass. - October 8, 2017 - Coming off its second-place finish at the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championships a week ago, the Springfield College golf team produced a team score of 308 at the opening round of the Elms College Blazer Fall Invitational, held at Hickory Ridge Golf Club.
Ina field of 16 teams, Springfield's mark of 308 was good enough for fifth place, as three players shot 76 or better. Babson's total score of 294 leads the field, followed by Western New England (297), Rhode Island College (302), Westfield State (304), while Springfield rounded out the top five.
Doug Shane (Hamden, Conn.) had a breakout performance for the Pride and is tied for seventh overall after tallying a two-over round of 74 as he registered 13 pars on the day. Springfield's Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.) and Jake Raichle (Bethlehem, N.H.) each carded 76's, while Greg Allen (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) turned in an 82. Travis Price (Reading, Mass.) closely followed Allen and produced an 18-hole score of 85.
