Newington, Conn. - September 9, 2017 - The Springfield College golf team concluded the first round of the Bill Detrick Invitational hosted by Trinity College in 11th-place as a team as they competed at Indian Hill Country Club on Saturday afternoon.
Trinity has a pair of teams separated by two shots to lead the field, while Western New England University sits three strokes back with a team total of 305. Babson, Amhersts, and Tufts each totaled scores 317. Springfield's top four golfers combine for 333 strokes on the day.
Sophomore Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.) opened up the season with an 82, while Travis Price (Reading, Mass.) closley followed with an 83. Doug Shane (Hamden, Conn.) carded a round of 84, as did first-year Jake Raichle (Bethlehem, N.H.). Matt Gazaille (Palmer, Mass.) turned in an 87 and Greg Allen (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) rounded out Springfield's competitors with an 89.
