Golf Sits In Second After Opening Day of NECC Championships

West Boylston, Mass. - October 1, 2016 - The Springfield College golf team sits in second place after the opening round of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) at Wachusett Country Club on Saturday.

The Pride totaled 321 strokes on the Par 72 course and only trails Babson, who put together 298 strokes on the afternoon.  Elms is in third with 322 strokes, followed by Daniel Webster (347), Mitchell (367), and Becker (435).

Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.) was the Pride's top player on Saturday as the first-year carded a 78 and sits tied for fifth individually.  Both Travis Price (Reading, Mass.) and Doug Shane (Hamden, Conn.) are tied for ninth after they each registered an 80, while Greg Allen (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) turned in an 83 on Saturday.

The Pride's scorers were rounded out by Matt Gazaille (Palmer, Mass.), who totaled an 87 for Springfield.
