Middlebury, Vt. - September 18, 2016 - The Springfield College golf team wrapped up the Duke Nelson Invitational at Ralph Myhre Golf Course on Sunday and finished 18th in the two-day competition with a team score of 644.
After combining for 315 strokes on Saturday, the Pride totaled 329 strokes in their second day to wrap up their scoring as they competed on the par-71 course on the Middlebury College campus.
Skidmore took home the title with a two-day total of 588, while the host Panthers placed second with a 591 (297-294), followed by Trinity (606) and Rochester (608).
Three of Springfied's five competitors, Greg Allen (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.), and Travis Price (Reading, Mass.), each carded 81's on Sunday. Allen had the Prides' best two-day total to finish tied for 26th indivdually (71-81/154), while Strong had a consistent collegiate opening weekend (81-81/164). Price improved his Sunday score by three strokes (84-81/165).
Additionally, both Matt Gazaille(Palmer, Mass.) and Doug Shane (Hamden, Conn.) registered 86's to round out Springfield's scoring on Sunday. In their initial college competition, Gazaille went 80-86/166, while Shane posted a 82-86/168.
Springfield will compete in the Williams Invitational at the Taconic Golf Club next weekend.
