Springfield, Mass. - February 19, 2018 - Springfield College's Heath Post (Cheshire, Conn.) was selected to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week as well as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week after leading the Pride to a pair of wins last week to lock up the top seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Championship.
The Team of the Week presented by Scoutware is D3hoops.com's weekly honor roll, and is in its 21st season of recognizing the top performance at each of the five positions from the previous week. It is also the fourth time this season that the NEWMAC has honored Post, including the third defensive recognition of the year.
Post anchored a Springfield defensive unit that helped the Pride earned their most-ever NEWMAC regular-season victories en route to earning the top seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Championship and their first-ever outright regular season NEWMAC title. The sophomore averaged 20.0 points per game, shooting nearly 79% from the field to go along with 10.5 rebounds per game. At WPI on Wednesday, Post totaled 22 points and 7 rebounds before turning in an 18-point, 14-rebound performance versus Babson as the Pride secured hosting rights for the conference tournament.
This marks the second-straight season that Springfield College has had a men's basketball player honored to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week, as Jake Ross garnered the honor on Dec. 21, 2016 after Springfield knocked off then-No. 1 ranked Amherst College.
