Baldwin City, Kan. - February 15, 2018 - Springfield College's Jake Ross (Northampton, Mass.) was named to Small College Basketball's second Watch List for the Bevo Francis Award of 2018, which has been narrowed down to 50 of the finest men's basketball players in the country who compete in the affiliations of NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA Division I, NAIA Division II, USCAA and NCCAA.
The committee chose this elite group from over 1,100 colleges and universities and took into consideration individual statistics, previous awards, milestones and team success.
"The process of selecting 50 players from all of small college basketball - over 1,100 schools - has been incredibly challenging," said SCB Founder, John McCarthy. "Our committee has done a tremendous amount of research, and provided a great deal of input. The players listed on the Top 50 Watch List for the Bevo Francis Award are very good players that are in the midst of a tremendous season. I sincerely congratulate each and every player on this list, as this is truly an elite group of players."
After being on the initial 100 player watch in January, Ross has continued to shine during his second year as a member of the Springfield College men's basketball team, and is one of nine players from NCAA Division III to be recognized in the Top 50. Heading into the regular-season finale on Saturday, Ross has produced 15 double doubles, which is the 8th most at the NCAA Division III level and currently leads leads the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) in both scoring (24.0 ppg) and rebounds (9.9 rpg), as well as total steals (58), and needed just 44 college games to reach the 1,000 careeer point milestone. Additionally, Ross ranks in the top 15 in Division III in total field goals made (209) and defensive rebounds per game (8.1) and has been selected as the NEWMAC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week on seven occasions this season.
The list will be narrowed down to 25 players in a Watch List published on March 15. The finalists will be announced in a highlight video that will be released on March 31.
The 2018 Bevo Francis Award winner will be announced on April 2 but for the first time, the award will be presented to the award winner on May 19 at the newly created National Awards Show in conjunction with the SCB Alumni Association's Celebration of the Game event at the Crowne Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri.
