Springfield, Mass. - February 5, 2018 - Springfield College's Jake Ross (Northampton, Mass.) was tabbed the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III North Men's Basketball Player of the Week and the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week as the Pride picked up two more conference wins last week to push its winning streak to nine games.
This marks the second time in the last three weeks that Ross has earned the regional honor for the ECAC, while it's the seventh time this season that the NEWMAC has recognized him, as he has chosen for five defensive athlete of the week honors and two offensive athlete of the week recognitions.
The sophomore averaged 18.5 points, 13.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game while shooting 48.4% (15-for-31) from the field. Ross opened the week with the first triple double of his career, going for 22 points, 12 boards, and 10 assists to go along with five steals in just 28 minutes of action in a 26-point win over Coast Guard. On Saturday, Ross paced the way with 15 points and 14 rebounds as one of five Springfield players to score in double figures in their 29-point win over Emerson.
Next up for Springfield is a matchup on the road with rival Wheaton, which will be played Wednesday at 7 pm.
