Springfield, Mass. - December 21, 2016 - Springfield College first-year Jake Ross (Northampton, Mass.) was selected to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week after leading the Pride to its victory over Amherst last week.
The Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware, is D3hoops.com's weekly honor roll and is in its 19th season of recognizing the top performances at each of the five positions from the previous week.
Through four weeks of the season, Ross is the only freshman from across the country to have been selected for the national honor so far. In the 71-70 win over Amherst, who was ranked #1 in the nation entering the country, Ross poured in 21 points to go along with 10 boards for his sixth double-double of the season. The local product tallied three assists and three blocks, including two swatted Amherst three-point attempts in the final 13 seconds to seal Springfield College men's basketball's first-ever win over a No. 1 ranked team as a Division III program.
To date, Ross is averaging 21 points per game, the second-highest total among all first-years at the NCAA Division III level, while his 9.9 boards per game ranks third-best among freshman in the country. Additionally, his six double-doubles are the second most among all student-athletes who play NCAA Division III men's basketball.
