Boston, Mass. - December 5, 2016 - Springfield College first-year Jake Ross (Northampton, Mass.) has been selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Ross continued his tremendous start to his collegiate career as he produced a pair of double-doubles last week to help Springfield to a 1-1 week. The rookie averaged 24 points and 11.5 rebounds per game to go along with 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per contest.
In a midweek, final-second setback to New Paltz, Ross delivered 23 points, 10 boards, and four assists before powering the Pride to a victory over Westfield State on Saturday as he pumped in 25 points to go along with 13 boards, four steals, and three assists.
One of only two players in the NEWMAC averaging double digit points and rebounds per game, Ross is currently the third-highest scoring first-year in the nation and one of only four freshman in all of Division III men's basketball to be averaging a double double.
Ross and the Pride will next play Trinity on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Connecticut for a 7 pm clash.
