Springfield, Mass. - November 5, 2018 - Springfield College's Nick Giorgio (Cumberland, R.I.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Football Defensive Athlete of the Week for the third time this season following another dominant performance last Saturday.
In the Pride's 44-7 victory over Maine Maritime on Saturday, Giorgio produced five tackles, four of which were for a loss of 15 yards, as well as two sacks, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble. The Business Management major headlined a Springfield defense that held the Mariners to just 48 yards of total offense for the entire game, including just four rushing yards.
Heading into the regular-season, Giorgio's four forced fumbles is the third most in Division III football, while his 23 tackles for loss and 12 sacks are both fourth best in the country.
Springfield will travel to MIT for a 12 pm contest on Saturday in its regular-season finale.
