Troy, N.Y. - October 17, 2016 - Springfield College's Hunter Belzo (Middletown, Conn.) and Jordan Wilcox (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) were honored by the Liberty League and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) for their breakout performances in the Pride's historic victory against Rochester last Saturday.
Wilcox was chosen as the Liberty League's Offensive Player of the Week and the ECAC Corvias Division III North Offensive Player of the Week, while Belzo garnered Liberty League Rookie of the Week and ECAC Corvias Division III North Rookie of the Week honors as the Pride defeated Rochester, 70-47. Springfield College's 70 points was the fourth-most in program history, and the shootout was the most points combined in a game in Springfield's storied history, which dates back to 1890. It eclipsed the previous record of 107 points that were scored in the 56-49 win over WPI in 1997.
On Saturday, Wilcox carried the ball 12 times for 174 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 14.5 yards per carry. The Finance major had touchdown runs of 54, 53, 6, and 2 yards and was one of four Springfield College rushers to go over 100 yards as the Pride rushed for 624 yards in a 70-47 win over Rochester.
Belzo continued to dazzle with his big play ability as he rushed for 160 and two touchdowns on just two carries. On the first play of the second half, the Criminal Justice major busted out a 69 yard TD run before he converted a 3-and-16 from inside his own 10 yard line when he hurdled a defender and raced 91 yards for another touchdown run. Belzo was one of four Springfield rushers to eclipse 100 yards on the day as the Pride finished the afternoon with over 600 rushing yards.
Springfield will travel to square off with Hobart this upcoming Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 pm.
