Troy, N.Y. - September 26, 2016 - After leading the Springfield College football team to a thrilling, come-from-behind victory over WPI on Saturday, freshman Chad Shade (Pittsfield, Mass.) was chosen as both the Liberty League's Football Rookie of the Week as well as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Corvias Football Division III North Rookie of the Week.
Shade was tremendous as he took over the Springfield offense in the second half and led the Pride back from a 17-point deficit en route to a 28-23 victory over WPI. With the win, Springfield evened its record to 2-2 and moved to 1-0 in league play.
The first-year quarterback totaled 164 yards on 20 carries, averaging 8.2 yards per carry, while rushing for two touchdowns. He also threw for 76 yards and another score. He had touchdown runs of 50 and 19 yards, and fired a 22-yard TD for the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter.
Shade and the Pride will play their first away game of the season on Saturday when they travel to face St. Lawrence for a 1 pm contest.
