New London, Conn. - April 8, 2017 - Wrapping up a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) West Division doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, the Springfield College baseball team split the two games against Coast Guard.
The Pride won the first game, 13-4, to pick up its third-straight win to begin league play, before falling in the second, 11-1. Springfield College's 3-1 start in NEWMAC play is the best start since the 1998 season when the Pride won its first seven conference games.
Up next, Springfield Colege will host Babson in another NEWMAC doubleheader on Sunday, April 9 at 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

After Coast Guard picked up a run in the bottom of the second, Springfield bounced back with two in the top of the third, including Drabinski's first home run of the season, a two-run shot to give the Pride a 2-1 lead. Springfield College would tack on an additional run in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from Peter Marsicano (Allentown, N.J.), before the Bears pulled back to within one in the bottom of the fifth.
The Pride scored four in the top of the sixth, benefitting from a two-run double off the bat of Mike Jamieson (New Fairfield, Conn.), before adding three more in the top of the eighth to make it 10-2, Springfield College. The maroon and white scored three more times in the top of the ninth, including an RBI double from Kyle Allen (Westerly, R.I.) to seal the win.
