Pinho and Luscier to Compete at NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships March 9-10

Springfield, Mass. - March 6, 2018 - There will be two student-athletes representing Springfield College at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend, as senior's Jack Pinho (Prospect, Conn.) of the men's track and field team and Courtney Luscier (Pittsfield, Mass.) of the women's track and field team will begin competition on Friday. 

The championships will be held March 9-10 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala., with Birmingham Southern College and the Birmingham CrossPlex serving as hosts.

Pinho, a senior Physical Education major, has been sensational during the 2017-18 season, as he has broken 108 years worth of Springfield College men's indoor track and field program records in the mile, the 800 meter run and the 1000 meter run. Pinho's run began on January 27 at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted at Boston University where he broke a 27-year old record in the 800, producing a time of 1:52.11.

Pinho continued on to break the 17-year old 1000 meter record at Boston University's David Hemery Valentines Invitational on February 10 with a time of 2:25.09. At the 2018 Fastrack Last Chance Invitational on February 24, Pinho edged the 48-year old record and ran a time of 4:07.89, moving him into sixth in all of Division III. A time that qualified the Prospect, Conn. native for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships for the first time in his career, Pinho will be the fifth-seeded runner, and will begin his race at 2:35 p.m. 

Qualifying for the national stage in the 60 meter dash, Luscier moved up into a tie for ninth in all of Division III this past weekend at the Tufts National Qualifying Meet following an event-winning time of 7.72 seconds. The Sports Biology major will be seeded eleventh overall in the 60 meter dash prelims, which will take place on Friday, March 9 at 2:15 p.m.

This will be Luscier's third time to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, as for the past two previous season's the now senior has come home with All-America honors, taking seventh as a sophomore in 2016, and fourth as a junior in 2017. The Pittsfield, Mass. native also holds the Springfield College women's indoor track and field record in the 60 meter dash, as she ran a time of 7.67 seconds at the Division III New England Championships in 2016.
