Danbury, Conn. - September 12, 2017 - The Springfield College duo of Anagabrielle Sanchez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) and Jordan Wilcox (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) were recognized for their outstanding efforts last week by earning regional accolades from the Eastern College Athletic Conference. Sanchez was tabbed the ECAC Division III North Women's Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, while Wilcox was chosen as the ECAC Division III North Football Offensive Player of the Week.
Sanchez had another outstanding week defensively for Springfield, totaling 79 digs, 18 assists, and four service aces as the Pride won three of its fourth matches. After posting 16 digs and two aces in a win over Amherst, Sanchez notched 23 digs and six assists at Endicott in a rematch of last year's NCAA First Round meeting. She later posted 16 digs and five assists in a loss to nationally-ranked La Verne and closed out the weekend producing 24 digs and six assists in a five-set win over Geneseo. Through two weeks, Sanchez has 40 more digs than anyone else in the NEWMAC and ranks first in digs per set.
Wilcox was dominant in helping lead Springfield to a 28-8 non-conference victory over Kean University to improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2013. The senior fullback racked up a career-best 223 yards on 27 carries, averaging 8.3 per carry, and rushed for a pair of touchdowns, including a 51-yarder in the first quarter. He also added a touchdown reception of eight yards. Through two weeks, the Finance major has carried the ball 57 times for 371 yards.
